RRI's Foam Insulation helps project earn LEED Platinum rating.

Evelyn P Tyner Interpretive Center

The Evelyn Pease Tyner Interpretive Center, in Glenview, Ill., opened on April 14, 2007. The 3,000-square foot cCenter serves as a showcase for "green technology," and has been certified by the U. S. Green Building Council as LEED Platinum, the highest possible designation under the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design rating system. The building features a number of environmentally sound design attributes including solar electricity panels and a living, Green roof.

The purpose of the Tyner center is to provide information for and educate visitors about the pristine 32.5 acres of prairie land it is placed upon. It is named after Dr. Evelyn Tyner a longtime Glenview resident, former Physical Sciences faculty member at Harold Washington College and an active volunteer. She has spent many years working to protect and enhance Illinois' natural resources.

The Tyner Center was designed from the beginning of construction to be green. They have a geothermal heating and cooling systemas well as vegetated and solar panels on the roof. To partner with these energy saving building technologies, Renewable Resource Insulation used soy-based foam insulation for its energy-efficiency and environmentally-responsible features. By using green building practices, the Tyner Center was able to achieve the highest LEED certification, a Platinum certification.

In total, the project earned 53 LEED credits: nine site credits, four water efficiency credits, 16 energy and atmosphere credits, seven materials and resources credits, 12 indoor environmental quality and five innovation and design credits. Our foam insulation helped earn LEED credits in the energy and atmosphere, materials and resources and indoor environmental categories.
